A stainless steel weapon is simpler to maintain, but still must be cleaned after use. Compared to carbon steel, stainless steel is more rust-resistant; stainless steel is not rust-proof. Stainless steel is less affected by moisture and will take longer to show corrosion. The salts and residues left when black powder or Pyrodex® is ignited will attract moisture and rust will result. If not removed, these residues will cause pitting and damage to the surface finishes; damage can be severe enough to ruin the weapon.
Weapons made of stainless steel are much easier to clean, and the same black powder solvents and solutions can be used as with a blued steel weapon. To view the cleaning products and other accessories we offer, click HERE.
